Puujitha MK, the 13-year-old girl who had been missing since August 24 from outside her school in Rajajinagar, was found in Hubballi on Sunday afternoon. She was safe and currently with her relatives. Her parents, Madhu Kiran and Padmini, were on their way to meet her and bring her home.
The Srirampura police, who took the missing complaint, told Mirror that Puujitha was found at the Hubballi railway station around 1 pm by a team of local railway police, railway protection force (RPF) and her relatives. She reportedly confessed that she had taken off on her own for having scored low in a mathematics test.
On August 24, before leaving home for school, Puujitha had borrowed Rs 610 from her parents, claiming she needed to pay for a play at the school. She also packed a pair of plain well-worn clothes on the pretext that she had to play an orphan girl. She left home in the school van at around 7.55 am.
She got down at the entrance of National Public School in Rajajinagar at around 8.10 am and started walking away. According to the police, the driver or attender of the bus didn’t wait to check if all the children were going into the school.
Puujitha walked to Kranthiveera Songolli Rayanna (Bengaluru city) railway station
from there. She boarded a train and went to Arsikere in Hassan district and from there got into Ajmer Express and went to Ahmedabad.
The CCTV footage checked by the Ahmedabad railway police showed her at the Ahmedabad railway station ticket counter at 3 pm on Friday, inquiring about any south-bound train. When she was told that no ticket was available, she bought a regular ticket for Mumbai. Based on her photo and CCTV footage, the railway police started inquiring into her stay in Ahmedabad.
Police inspector of Kalupur railway police station HC Rathva told Mirror, “After ascertaining Puujitha’s presence at the Ahmedabad railway station on Friday, we alerted the railway police along the Mumbai route.”
From there, Puujitha went to Dadar and then was headed back to Mysuru in Sharavati Express when she was spotted while the train was in Hubballi. She was rescued at the station and her relatives took her home.
